त्रिपद नक्षत्र शांती
एकूण २७ नक्षत्रांमध्ये जर एखाद्या व्यक्तीचा मृत्यू कृत्तिका, पुनर्वसु, उत्तरा फाल्गुनी, विशाखा, उत्तराषाढा किंवा पूर्व भाद्रपद नक्षत्र असलेल्या दिवशी झाला असेल, तर तो मृत्यू अशुभ मानला जातो. असे मानले जाते की योग्य शांती विधी न केल्यास, मृत व्यक्ती दोन वर्षांच्या आत कुटुंबातील आणखी तीन सदस्यांना घेऊन जाऊ शकतो. या अशुभ परिणामांना दूर करण्यासाठी त्रिपद नक्षत्र शांती पार पडते.
पंचक नक्षत्र शांती
जर मृत्यू धनिष्ठा (अंतिम भाग), शत तारका, पूर्व भाद्रपद, उत्तर भाद्रपद आणि रेवती नक्षत्रात झाला असेल, तर तो मृत्यू अशुभ मानला जातो. योग्य शांती विधी न केल्यास, मृत व्यक्ती दोन वर्षांच्या आत कुटुंबातील आणखी पाच सदस्यांना घेऊन जाऊ शकतो, असे मानले जाते. या पाच नक्षत्रांमध्ये चंद्राची स्थिती २९६° ते ३६०° दरम्यान असते. अशा संभाव्य अशुभ परिणामांना दूर करण्यासाठी पंचक नक्षत्र शांती पार पडते.
